Well Said

Below is a collection of quotes. I’ll add to it from time to time, adding the most recent additions at the top. It’s an eclectic mix on all kinds of subjects. The only thing they have in common is the sterling quality of the thought and the spartan economy of the words. People who truly have a clear and compelling thought can say it well with few words. Feel free to add a comment with your own favorite quotable quotes.

Quotes from the Back of My Bible

"A Bible that's falling apart is evidence of a life that's not."

The following are a collection of quotes from the back of my Bible. For years I jotted down pithy nuggests of truth that I heard during sermons or read during quiet times. They filled up the front and back of the flyleaf in my worn-out Scofield Bible. For the vast majority, I didn’t write down who said them, mainly because the speaker often wasn’t the originator. Many came from Adrian Rogers, however, and I’m sure quite a few are genuine original “Adrianims.” Enjoy and add your own.

God does not want you to do anything for Him. He wants to do something through you.

Prayer isn’t getting man’s will done in Heaven, but getting God’s will done on Earth.

—Vance Havner

The devil offers high wages, but he pays in counterfeit money.

Socialism
Friend, you cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.  And what one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government can’t give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody. And when half of the people get the idea they don’t have to work because the other half’s going to take care of them, and when the other half get the idea it does no good to work because somebody’s going to get what I work for. That, dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
